Also, upon further reflection, all are bands from our "past." Both of us love Pearl Jam and I couldn't live without some Dave in my life. As of late, CD's seem to be reserved for the artists we "keep" in our lives.

We just bought 3 new CD's: DMB, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. I am generally an iTunes kinda girl, the Hubs isn't. It costs the same either way. On one hand, he likes having the CD and he doesn't have to worry about backing up stuff, etc. I like the instant gratification of music NOW. I don't know if that helps-we're a house divided :)

Good find on the packaging! I'm keeping that one for reference.

As for your second paragraph? All I can really say is I completely agree!

I buy CDs when the packaging is as cool as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odH2cG_FF9A - otherwise, I'll download it. If I am going to buy something that is actually going to take up tangible space, then it needs to be worth sitting next to the pretty things I keep on my walls and shelves.

The "record industry" is struggling, because they lost connection with their consumer base. They don't really understand why people like music and no one ever will. The music industry, on the other hand, is doing just fine. I like the way things are developing. It is about time we exalt those that really deserve it. Great music is being made all the time. Heck, while doing some social media monitoring for a client, I found the band Woodhands from Toronto. This is a regular occurence though.

I completely agree. Thanks for the comment!

Sad fact - I still haven't read 1984. Putting it on my "to read" list now. It's beyond overdue.

For bands that have "sticking power" or I think will have cultural influence, I buy the CD. For rapid consumption of pop stuff, I buy from iTunes. Why? The same reason I buy a paper book vs Kindle. When I have the physical medium, that can't be taken away from me by changing the DRM agreement somewhere "over there."

When everything is digital, history will be easy to re-write. Ironically, it was 1984 that introduced that concept and it was 1984 that Amazon pulled back from Kindles first.
